Workshop on Youth and Peace Instruments

Thaiba VDC at Lalitpur, 19 June,2010 : It was a workshop conducted on the topic o’jf tyf zflGt ;+oGq. The participants were local youth and members from local peace community. They were delighted to participate in the program and showed their active participation during interaction. The program was followed by motivation, lecture and group working.

It was NIDS workshop program in local level supported by Ministry of Youth and Sports regarding peace mechanism. Mr. Durga Nidhi Sharma, Mr. Harihar Ghimire, Mr. Kiran Prasad Dhungel from different organization were the trainers. Finally the program was of success and monitored by Jharuwarasi VDC, Lubhu VDC, Ministry of Youth and Sports, District Sports Development Committee, Local Peace Committee and District Development Committee of Lalitpur.

Role of Youth in Peace Process, Relief, Rehabilitation Programme and United Nations Security Council Resolution-1325

Lalitpur, 3 June, 2010 : It was one day interaction as well as training program held by NIDs at Chetana Vidhyaaashram at Lubhu. Participants were from Lamatar and Lubhu VDC. The participants were from Local Peace Community, teachers, staff of health club as well as local people. The program was for raising knowledge of local people and local community organization regarding United Nation Security Council Resolution 1325 and role of youth in peace process.

United Nations Security Council Resolution-1325 Training Program

Lalitpur, 19 May 2010: United Nations Security Council Resolution-1325, Training program was held at Rainbow Club in Thaiba VDC. There had been participation of group of women from Red Cross Society, Local Peace Committee (Member), Students and local people (above S.L.C). There has been found the program was followed by the presence of more number of Janajati. NIDS is one of the organizations which has organized programs on United Nations Security Council Resolution 1325 to the local level. The program was conducted to inform people about women, peace and security.

Role of Youth in Peace Process, Relief and Rehabilitation Programme

Lalitpur, 15 May ,2010: NIDS conducted one day interaction program focusing on the Role of Youth in Peace Process, Relief and Rehabilitation Programme (शान्ति प्रकृयामा युवाको भूमिका तथा राहत एबम पुनस्थापनाका कार्यक्रम). There was, in addition, a talk held on support and rehabilitation of victims of war. The program was supported by Ministry of Youth and Sports. It was a local level program participated by majority of local people, political parties, different schools, and Jharuwarasi Village Development Committee representatives.

Environment Conservation and Disaster Mitigation

Bhaktpur, 1st.April,2010 to 7th. April, 2010 -: NIDS organised seven days program (बातावरण सम्रक्षण तथा प्रकोप न्युनिकरण ) supported by Ministry of youth and Sports in Changunarayan VDC 1. The program was held with the objective of disaster mitigation awareness as well as environmental conservation awareness. The program was followed by Sanitation around Changunarayan temple, forestation and in addition display of poster and pamphlets related to disaster mitigation and environmental conservation. The participants of this program were priest of the temple, is also president of Champak club,चांगुनारायण क्षेत्र प्रबन्ध समिती अध्यक्ष्य गाउँ बिकास समितिका सचिब लगायत अन्य सद्स्स्यहरु members from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Nepal Police, local people and students.

Elocution Programme conducted

On the occasion of National Earthquake Day, NIDS organized a National Elocution programme titled “Role of Students in Earthquake Preparedness”. It was jointly organized. President of DPNEt Dr. Min Bahadur Chettri and Amod Mani Dixit from NSETwere the Chief Guests for the Programme. a total of 17 schools and colleges participated enthusiastically in the Programme.
The Programme was supported by MOHA, DUDBC, Oxfam, ActionAid, EcoNepal.

Disaster Awareness in Schools

NIDS has started preparations for conducting Disaster Awareness in various Schools in the Baneshwore area of Kathmandu. NIDS aims to cover 4-5 schools in the following 5 months period.

Uniform and Stationary Distribution Programme

NIDS made an assessment visit of Shree Naba Durga Primary School at Dahachowk Village Development Committee on May 2009.

Based on the assessment, we realized that the school was in a very bad condition. Though the school is situated inside the Kathamandu Valley, the school lacked basic infrastructure and trained teachers. Most of the students who study in the school are Dalits and marginalized groups.

So NIDS started a campaign to help the school and the students there. We approached many national and international NGOs, but they were hesitant to help any schools inside the Kathmandu valley. So, with the help of Rastriya Dalit Aayog, NIDS prepared to help the students of the school.

4th June, 2009

On 4th June 2009, NIDS distributed Uniform and Stationary to a total of 50 students of Shree Naba Durga Primary School. This helped the students and the school a lot as the students lacked uniforms and stationery materials. This programme really encouraged the students there. The programme was conducted in the presence of parents, teachers and local community people.

Need Assessment to the Shree Naba Durga Primary School

NIDS conducted Need Assessment to the Shree Naba Durga Primary School for assessing the vulnerable situation of the school building. The state of the building is very bad, as it was badly damaged by the 1987 A.D Earthquake (as per the local’s information).

We also saw that most of the students who studied there were Dalits and marginalized groups. The state of the school not as good as it should be. Because of the lack of funds, the school is not maintained correctly.

Beautician Course

10th Jan to 13th March 2008

NIDS conducted a Beautician Course for women group from 1oth Jan to 13th March 2008. The course focused on training the women slum dwellers of Maijubahal, Chabahil, Kathmandu. The training lasted for 2 months and a total of 5 women benefited from the training.

The training was delivered by a professional Beautician Ms Toya Poudel. The course included basic beautician training which helped the trainees to do some income generating works.
